Don’t worry, CyberGhost VPN comes to the rescue. Keep scrolling down and I’ll explain how you can keep watching your favorite Netflix superhero movies even if you’re at school, work, or traveling abroad.

  1. Sign up to CyberGhost VPN. Get access to streaming-optimized servers. Binge watch in ultra HD with no interruptions.
  2. Select a US server. Loads of superhero movies are available on Netflix in the US. You’ll have to choose a server in that region.
  3. Sit back and enjoy the best superhero movies!

The Best 11 Superhero Movies on Netflix Right Now

1. The Dark Knight (2008)

The Dark Knight isn’t just a great superhero movie, it’s one of the best movies ever made. It has it all: drama, action, dark humor, a detective story, and Heath Ledger’s now world-renowned performance as the psychopathic Joker.

The story is great and the plot challenges other portrayals of Batman as the embodiment of order amidst the pure chaos of Gotham’s criminals. The scenes are visually stunning, and you’ll quickly find yourself enthralled with the cast’s amazing acting.

If you’ve already seen it, you know you can always rewatch this masterpiece and have a good time.

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 9/10 94%

2. Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Blade Runner 2049 takes place 30 years after the 1982 original Blade Runner. By itself, it’s a great movie, but as a sequel it disappointed some die-hard fans. To be fair, it’s pretty standard to be on the fence about sequels released decades after the originals. I’d definitely recommend a watch though.

Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas lead the cast, and they’re a pleasure to watch. Combine that with the gorgeous sci-fi noir aesthetic and a superb soundtrack, and you’re in for a good time. Immerse yourself in director Denis Villeneuve’s world, as rebel replicants threaten a fragile peace yet again.

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 8/10 88%

3. GANTZ: O (2016)

If you’re looking for an amazing superhero manga adaptation, look no further! Gantz fans–give this one a go. The animation trumps the other two live-action movies we’ve got.

If you haven’t heard of the series, know that the movie takes place in a world where people who die are brought back to life, given high-tech weapons, and forced to fight bizarre creatures. It’s not your typical forced-into-the-hero-role trope, though. You’re in for an amazing story, great character development, and stunning visuals.

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 7.1/10 67%

4. The Old Guard (2020)

The Old Guard is a modern comic book story brought to you by Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, and Matthias Schoenaerts. The plot’s fairly simple and linear, but the fighting scenes are action-packed and beautifully choreographed with shootings, martial arts, and swordplay scenes. The characters are well-rounded, and the actors’ performances are excellent.

It’s a 6 Underground-type movie, but with immortal mercenaries and big pharma villains. Netflix also hinted at a possible sequel, so make sure you’re in the loop.

5. Batman: The Killing Joke (2016)

Batman: The Killing Joke is definitely one of the most-hyped movies on this list. It’s based on one of the most controversial graphic novels in the Batman series, so be warned – it’s one of those hate it or love it movies. Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy, and Tara Strong reprise their roles as The Joker, Batman, and Barbara Gordon respectively, which is great.

It’s a messy, brutal plot that will leave you disturbed and outraged. Take that R rating seriously, because this one features a deranged Joker who pushes Batman to the edge.

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 6.4/10 50%

6. Major Grom: Plague Doctor (2021)

Get ready for a grade A vigilante story that takes place in St. Petersburg. Follow the story of a supercop, Igor Grom, on his hunt for those who try to escape justice.

The story is different from others we’re used to seeing in Marvel or DC flicks, but it’s refreshing to not see a superhero movie through the lens of Hollywood producers. Igor isn’t your regular superhero – he lives in poverty, he doesn’t lead a double life, and he doesn’t have sci-fi gadgets. He’s just a very determined man who fights corruption and evil-doers.

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 6.3/10 78%

7. Code 8 (2019)

Have you ever watched a superhero movie, and thought to yourself “if superpowers were real, we’d actually fear them and ostracize the people who displayed said cool powers”? Well, this is the premise of Code 8. It clearly takes inspiration from X-Men and the discrimination mutants face for their gifts, so if that’s your cup of tea, give this one a go.

The movie’s only fault is that it would have been better as a TV series. There’s no way we can get the full scope of the world and these complex characters in under two hours, but it’s an entertaining movie nonetheless.

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 6.1/10 80%

8. Superman Returns (2006)

Superman Returns takes us back to the original cinematic universe of Superman. If you’re used to Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel, you might not enjoy this one so much. The CGI back in 2006 wasn’t as good as it is now, so expect some weird visuals.

You still have to respect the classics, and Superman Returns is undeniably one for nostalgia and hardcore fans. Follow the beloved hero’s adventure as he’s on the verge of losing not only his powers, but also the woman he loves.

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 6.1/10 74%

9. Project Power (2020)

On the streets of New Orleans, a pill that gives you superpowers for 5 minutes is selling like hot cakes. Chaos ensues. A local cop (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) teams up with a teenage dealer (Dominique Fishback) and an ex-soldier (Jamie Foxx) to put a stop to the madness.

A twist here is the unpredictable nature of the pill. People don’t know what superpower they’re getting until they take it. It’s a great superhero flick with solid action scenes and spot-on performances!

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 6/10 61%

10. Psychokinesis (2018)

From the director of the critically acclaimed Train to Busan we get Psychokinesis. It’s the story of a bank security guard, Seok-heon, who gains superpowers after drinking water from a mountain spring. If you mix Taken’s action, Hancock’s premise, and The 3 Stooges’ slapstick humor with Korean cinematography, you get Psychokinesis.

It’s no typical superhero movie, but it’s a surprising refresher in the genre–there’s not much CGI or unsophisticated superhero ego in the film. The actors are great, and the dialogue is really funny. Definitely worth a watch.

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 5.9/10 80%

11. How I Became a Superhero (2021)

Picture this: Superheroes go about their daily lives in hectic Paris – until shady people decide to sell drugs made with superhero blood that give their customers superpowers. It doesn’t take long until people turn on the superheroes. The movie follows Gabriel Moreau, a cop who teams up with detective Cécile Schaltzmann to take down the villain. Their adventure is full of entertaining moments, nice action scenes, and good special effects.

How I Became a Superhero isn’t all about saving the world or having flashy costumes. The action stays local, which makes the characters feel more relatable and genuine. Give it a go if you’re into the average-guy-turned-hero trope.

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 5.8/10 80%

Some superhero movies didn’t make the list because of the ratings they received. This doesn’t mean they’re not worth watching though. Some might have even been review-bombed. You judge whether you want to give them a go or not.

Why You Need a VPN to Watch Netflix

Searched for something on our list and found this message?

Netflix showing a proxy error

Well, I’ve got some bad news for you – Netflix has different libraries in different countries because of content rights agreements. Its platform uses your IP address to determine where you are, then only lets you see Netflix titles available in that country or region. Depending on where you live or travel to, you won’t always be able to access the movies you want.

If you’re traveling abroad, your IP address changes automatically to match your new location. That means you won’t be able to access US content anymore, and you might not be able to watch the best superhero movies on Netflix.

Riddle me this. Do you need to postpone your movie plans? No. Here’s where CyberGhost VPN comes in – it’s the top-rated streaming VPN for good reason.

CyberGhost VPN makes it simple to swap your IP address while on vacation for one in the US so you can continue streaming all your favorite superhero movies, no matter where you are. Just connect to a US streaming-optimized server and Netflix will think you’re still in the US.

Sometimes a Wi-Fi network will block your favorite streaming platforms like Netflix. If you’re at school or work, or you’re using public Wi-Fi at a hotel, the network administrator might block Netflix and prevent you from seeing how Batman defeats the Joker. Our strong encryption puts an end to that by making your online activities more private.

As an added bonus, you’ll also be able to safely watch other superhero movies from Disney+, Amazon Prime, and HBO Max. CyberGhost VPN has dedicated streaming servers for those services too.

Watching Netflix with a VPN is perfectly legal. That being said, unblocking content or creating an account outside its distribution area may violate copyright arrangements. CyberGhost VPN doesn’t endorse or condone breaking laws or agreements with or without a VPN.

Why Choose CyberGhost as the Best VPN for Netflix

🦸 A Multi-Platform VPN

“The real crime would be not to finish what we started.” – Doc Ock

We don’t often agree with the villain, but it’s true: leaving a movie unfinished is torture. CyberGhost VPN lets you take the action with you on the go. We’ve got VPN apps for all major operating systems, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Android TV, Amazon Fire Stick, and Linux.

For devices that don’t natively support VPN apps, we offer a Smart DNS solution, so you can enable streaming on any Smart TV and gaming console. You can even get CyberGhost VPN for your router to connect all your devices in one go.

The kicker? A single CyberGhost VPN subscription lets you connect up to 7 devices simultaneously, so you’ll never have to interrupt your streaming again.

🦸 A Worldwide Server Network

“I’m the best there is at what I do.” – Wolverine

Ask our Lead Architect why we’re confident you’ll never have to switch servers to find a good one for you. We’ve got 116 server locations in 91 countries, so you’ll never run out of options to choose from. 11 locations are in the US alone — the country with the most superhero franchises.

Download CyberGhost VPN and connect to our streaming-optimized servers with just 1 click. That way you’ll never have to server hop to get fast speeds for Netflix.

🦸 Uninterrupted Movie Marathons

“All men have limits.” – Batman

We know how frustrating it is to see the Man of Steel buffer every other frame. We give you unlimited bandwidth on our servers, so you’ll never get stuck buffering in the middle of an ultimate battle between good and evil.

CyberGhost VPN was built with you in mind, and our constant network upgrades are always focused on making it easier for you to use the internet the way you want. That means we keep expanding our network and optimizing our servers to let you have all the bandwidth you need.

Watch as many movies as you want we won’t stop you and we won’t cap your data.
Want to find out more about our servers? Our 24/7 Customer Support team is ready to answer your every question.

🦸 Ultra-Fast Speeds

“Being The Flash, that’s the best version of me. If I don’t have my speed, I’ll never be that person anymore.” – Barry Allen

Well, we won’t be able to match the fastest crime fighter, but we’re always optimizing our server fleet to give you the best speeds. Some VPNs are too slow to let you watch without constant buffering.

Our streaming-optimized servers use state-of-the-art VPN protocols like WireGuard® and IKEv2, which are optimal for fast speeds and crystal-clear 4K quality. You’ll never have to deal with interruptions or poor quality again.

Try CyberGhost VPN with our 45-day money-back guarantee!

🦸 No More ISP Throttling

“Is it just me or is it getting crazier out there?” – The Joker

It’s not just you. It’s crazy but true that you might get slower speeds during peak hours or when you’re visiting sites for streaming and other data-heavy activities. Your ISP may intentionally do this to save bandwidth. It’s called content-based throttling, and it’s not fair to you.

Get CyberGhost VPN to encrypt your traffic and redirect it through a secure tunnel. Your ISP won’t be able to see what you’re doing online, so it won’t throttle your connection anymore. You’ll get to watch Batman destroy evil with zero buffering.

Other Streaming Services that Work with CyberGhost VPN: We let you explore a whole world of cinematic gems, not just superhero movies. We’ve got streaming-optimized servers for Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney+, HBO Max, Crunchyroll, Vudu, and many others. Let your inner movie aficionado thrive with CyberGhost VPN!

Legendary Superhero Movies… Not on Netflix

Sadly, Netflix doesn’t have it all. There are some amazing superhero movies out there, and on this Superhero Day, it’s only fair that I mention them.

Don’t worry, I’ll also let you know where you can watch them. Fair warning, though–these streaming services require an active subscription to let you watch content, though most offer a free trial too. If something catches your attention, take advantage of the trial to watch.

1. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

You’d never expect a movie with the ambition to pack in as many Spider-Man elements as it can to be good. But Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won’t disappoint. It’s got a great storyline, outstanding cast, amazing soundtrack, and a heartbreaking cameo. This Spider-Man animation is a must-see. Bonus: it’s suitable for all ages, so it’s perfect for family night, too.

2. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

This one will blow your mind. You also should watch the first two movies in the Spider-Man MCU installment: Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home to get the full picture. It’s one of those rare instances when overhyped movies live up to the hype and deliver it all: action, drama, fan service, music, special effects, and cast.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is the movie that managed to bring at least three generations of Spider-Man fans to theaters in the middle of a global pandemic. It’s that good.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

This movie did a great job reinvigorating and popularizing the Guardians of the Galaxy comic series, so it’s worth your time. It starts with Star-Lord (or Peter Quill of Earth) stealing a mysterious orb that triggers a manhunt by none other than the genocidal villain Ronan the Accuser. Star-Lord gathers a team called the Guardians of the Galaxy to stop Ronan’s plans, and… you guessed it–save the galaxy.

The cast, the acting, the music, the plot, and the dialogue are perfect. The movie is so well done in every single aspect, you’ll inevitably fall for the beloved but whacky superhero team.

4. Marvel’s The Avengers (2012)

Marvel’s The Avengers was one of the most anticipated movies of the last decade, and it certainly delivered. The characters are memorable, the writing is fantastic, the action scenes are exciting, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better-suited cast.

While just the first installment in the Avengers series made it on this list, I’d actually recommend all four Avengers movies (plus Captain America: Civil War, so you get the entire picture). The movie is perfect for both Avengers fans and newcomers alike.

5. Big Hero 6 (2014)

How could you not love a plus-sized inflatable robot? Well, robotics enthusiast Hiro Hamada agrees with the sentiment. After a tragic event, Hiro and Baymax, the robot, team up with friends Go Go Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred to form a gang of high-tech heroes called Big Hero 6.

It’s a feel-good inspiring story and it’s appropriate for children, which makes it a great family movie. In a way, Big Hero 6 is like How to Train Your Dragon mixed with The Incredibles in a sci-fi setting. What’s not to like?

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 7.8/10 90%

Stream it on: Disney+

6. Wonder Woman (2017)

The princess of the Amazons doesn’t need much introduction nowadays, as she’s become a cultural icon at this point. Gal Gadot’s version of the beloved character is amazing, and she has fantastic chemistry with Chris Pine, who reprises the role of Steve Trevor.

Expect a fish-out-of-the-water arc with great stunt work and action-packed scenes. The CGI is pretty good too. You’ll also find a good depiction of World War I from the costumes to the props to the airplanes. It’s not a movie you want to miss out on!

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 7.4/10 93%

Stream it on: HBO Max

7. X-Men (2000)

This one is an oldie, but the cast is so good, I just had to mention it. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Patrick Steward as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and Famke Janssen as Jean Grey are exemplary for great casting.

The movie is now two decades old, so it’s clearly passed the test of time as a good start to the X-Men franchise. You might be taken aback since the CGI and stunning visual effects of newer movies weren’t an option back then.

It might seem a bit lackluster in that regard, but it was one of the first superhero movies people took seriously. You have to respect the classics, right?

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes
Rating 7.4/10 82%

8. Black Panther (2018)

Black Panther takes us to the secretive but incredible kingdom of Wakanda, and visually it’s stunning. We follow Prince T’Challa, the heir to the throne, who faces challenges from factions in his country before he can even serve as king. He must team up with a CIA agent and the Dora Milaje to protect Wakanda from a world war.

Like all Marvel films, the writing and acting are amazing, and the visual effects are excellent. A superhero movie with a not-your-typical hero and not-your-typical-villain–what’s not to like? There’s not much else to say but long live the king!

Review Platform IMDb Rotten Tomatoes

9. The Lego Batman Movie (2017)

After seeing Batman in The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie seemed like a given. And hoo boy, we’re sure glad they did it. The movie delivers a fresh take on the popular hero and has it all: visual gags, snappy dialogue, energetic pacing, vibrant visuals, great soundtrack, and exceptional voice acting.

For die-hard Batman fans, this one hits all the marks with references to previous Batman iterations and characters. The movie is a delight for people of all ages, and entertaining for all superhero fans. I can’t recommend this one enough.

How to Celebrate National Superhero Day

If you’re not familiar with National Superhero Day, let me quickly bring you up to speed.
Back in 1995, Marvel employees created National Superhero Day. On April 28, we celebrate caped crusaders, masked vigilantes, mutants, bringers of justice, and gods, as well as our real-life heroes who make the world a better and safer place.

Not all heroes wear capes – some wear scrubs, uniforms, fire-protective gear, or a volunteer card. Superheroes come in all shapes, sizes, and ages and on National Superhero Day we remember those we look up to.

With that in mind, what’s the best way to honor our heroes?

  1. Thank them. Most superheroes in our lives have thankless jobs despite the contributions they make to our society. Whether it’s through a message, a postcard, or a cookie, a thank you goes a long way.
  2. Donate. If you’re financially able to do so, there are a lot of hospitals, charities, shelters, and centers out there that are underfunded, despite the great work they do in bettering people’s lives.
  3. Dress up. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re too old to have fun. It’s also a great way to practice your crafting skills. Those costumes aren’t easy to emulate.
  4. Watch superhero movies. They’re fun and a great way to celebrate National Superhero Day. If you’re not sure where to start, be sure to check out our recommendations.
  5. Read superhero comic books. Just like superhero movies, the comic books they’re based on are engaging and worth your time.
  6. Be a superhero. There are plenty of things you can do to be a role model. Volunteer, give out food, clean the parks and forests, donate your old clothes, recycle, be nice to others. The possibilities are endless.

No matter what you decide to do, April 28 is the perfect day to celebrate your favorite heroes, fictional or otherwise.
