Full info on the 2019-2020 NBA season restart
It was March 11, when the 2019-2020 NBA season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. Back then, few people expected the hiatus to last so long. Luckily, on June 4, the NBA Board of Governors approved a novel competitive format for the NBA comeback. The restart will happen on July 30, with 22 teams returning to play.
Each team is set to play eight ‘seeding games’ that will determine the playoff seeding in each conference. The games will be selected based on each team’s remaining regular-season matchups.
The 22 teams will include the 16 clubs that occupied a playoff spot when the season was stopped, plus six additional teams within six games of the No. 9 seed in their respective conference.
- Milwaukee Bucks
- Toronto Raptors
- Boston Celtics
- Miami Heat
- Indiana Pacers
- Philadelphia 76ers
- Brooklyn Nets
- Orlando Magic
- Washington Wizards
- Los Angeles Lakers
- LA Clippers
- Denver Nuggets
- Utah Jazz
- Oklahoma City Thunder
- Houston Rockets
- Dallas Mavericks
- Memphis Grizzlies
- Portland Trail Blazers
- New Orleans Pelicans
- Sacramento Kings
- San Antonio Spurs
- Pheonix Suns
In order to ensure all health and safety protocols, all games will take place at the ESPN World Wide of Sports Complex, located within Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Team training camps are already underway there, as of the start of June. As for the live audience, there will be none.
Playoff seeding system
Seven teams from each conference – the ones that will hold the best records (regular-season games + seeding games) will clinch a playoff spot. The eighth seed could potentially come down to a play-in tournament.
However, this will only occur if the team with the eight-best record in its conference is not more than four games ahead of the team with the ninth-best record. If this condition is not met, the two teams will battle for the final spot in a best-of-two series. In order to qualify, the No.9 seed will have to win two head-to-head matchups to take over the No.8 spot.
Keep an eye-out for scrimmage games
Even though official games will not resume before July 30, as part of their final preparation, teams will compete in three inter-squad scrimmages between July 22 and July 28.
Witness the dawn of a new NBA era
The Larry O'Brien trophy is up for grabs! And this year, the field seems to be more even than ever. Up until the season was brought to a standstill, the Milwaukee Bucks, with Giannis Antetokounmpo as their No.1, were leading the NBA in victories.
LeBron’s Lakers were breathing down their backs with statement wins over both the Bucks and the Clippers in consecutive games in early March. Los Angeles has not won the NBA since 2010, so there’s a lot of pressure on LeBron James, Anthony Davis & co. to deliver.
Meanwhile, defending champions Toronto Raptors seemed unphased by the departures of Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. Few people expected them to be in championship contention, yet here they are.
On the other side of the border, the LA Clippers have been eagerly waiting for the season restart with one goal in mind: the resumption of their title chase.
It remains to be seen who will profit most from this forced season break. Either way, basketball fans are in for a treat.

If you live outside the US remember: before you subscribe or sign up for a free trial offer for any of these services, you will need to obtain an American IP address. That’s because they’re only available from within the US.
However, with CyberGhost VPN, this is not a problem. Within a few seconds, you’ll be connected to one of our over 700+ available US servers and geo-restrictions will be a thing of the past.
How to watch all the NBA games with zero regional blackouts
The NBA League Pass offers live streams to over 1,200 games from the regular season, the All-Star Weekend, Playoffs and NBA Finals. Plus, you also get NBA TV game analysis, documentaries, and the possibility of watching multiple games simultaneously.
However, if you live inside the US and Canada will be the subject of NBA League Pass blackouts. These blackouts occur when a game is televised locally in your area via a regional sports network or an over-the-air station.
The NBA League Pass is now also available through Amazon Channels for $29/month, or $169 for the full season pass.
Here’s the catch: non-US users who sign up for the League Pass don’t have to worry about regional restrictions. For them, blackouts do not apply.
If you live inside Canada or the US, you can use a VPN to avoid NBA League Pass blackouts, and get live streaming access to every game.
All you have to do is sign up for the League Pass using a server that isn’t located in the States or Canada. And with CyberGhost VPN, you have thousands of options available.
