I may not have the best jokes up my sleeve, but Netflix US certainly does. From movies that will give you belly-pain, to dark comedy so uncomfortable it’s funny it has a bit of everything for everyone.

You may have a problem, though. What if, like me, you’re looking to laugh, but you’re traveling outside of the US? Or what if you want some laughs during lunch at work and they block Netflix on their Wi-Fi? Worry not. You can keep watching the best comedy movies on Netflix with CyberGhost VPN. It’s also safe, easy, and 100% legal! Use CyberGhost VPN to make your connection private while you enjoy hours of laughter!

To compensate for my lame jokes, I’ve compiled this list of the best comedy movies on Netflix US. Take your pick!

Quick Guide–How to Watch the Best Comedy Movies on Netflix in 3 Steps

  1. Sign up to CyberGhost VPN. Get access to streaming-optimized servers. Stream in ultra HD with no interruptions.
  2. Select a server in the US. Great comedy movies are available in the US. You’ll have to choose a server in that region.
  3. Sit back and enjoy the best comedy movies.

The 20 Best Comedy Movies on Netflix Right Now

Netflix has dozens of comedy films in its catalog, so choosing the top 20 was quite a task! Trust me, these aren’t random movie titles I picked with my eyes closed. I used the following criteria to ensure only the best films made the cut.

    • High ratings. Each movie on this list scored higher than 7 or 70% on at least one aggregator site. Quality over quantity, right?
    • Diversity and inclusivity. Female directors, African American productions, and LGBTQ+ representation? Heck yes! You’ll find a few diverse films to pick from on my list.
    • Variety. What are you in the mood for? A funny adventure, a hilarious horror, or a fluffy rom-com? My picks span an array of comedy subgenres to hit your sweet spot.
    • Age. Take your pick from family films to mature comedy, and everything in between!

Without further ado, here are the best comedy movies on Netflix:

In doing so, Cash discovers a cruel, capitalist plot and plunges into a fantasy world where his dreams come true. At what cost?

18. Between Two Ferns: The Movie

IMDb Rotten Tomatoes Metacritic
6.1 75% 59%

It’s always refreshing to see A-listers make fun of themselves. Between Two Ferns: The Movie features celebrity cameos subjected to Zach Galifianakis’ awkward and invasive talk show questions.

The film kicks off with Galifianakis accidentally killing Matthew McConaughey on set. The incident goes viral and Zach pursues his own talk show. He also goes on a road trip with his crew to hunt down content. It can only go downhill from there.

Sometimes, all we need is a brain-dead comedy movie that doesn’t have to do much to incite laughter. Between Two Ferns: The Movie excels at this.

Directed by Scott Aukerman
Starring Zach Galifianakis
Subgenre Cringe, improvised, parody
Rated TV-MA (Profanity, sensitive subject matter)
Year 2019

The Other Guys is old but gold, and I cried many tears of laughter when I watched it. It’s a preposterous story of incompetent, bottom-rung partner cops with a mutual aversion.

While investigating a minor crime, they accidentally uncover a major case. To climb the ranks, they decide to work together on this case.

You’ve heard of The Room, right? The Disaster Artist shows us how The Room was made, and he shows us the impact it had, be it good or shockingly bad.

James Franco stars as Tommy Wiseau, the man who became a legend for all the wrong reasons. The Disaster Artist is a glimpse at his naive determination and journey to stardom making what’s often considered the worst movie ever.

Despite its story, this movie is excellent. It has won many awards for its quality and performance. The irony!

Honorable Mentions

A handful of movies didn’t match the criteria but may still be worth a watch. If the Top 20 didn’t do it for you, check out these movies:

    • 🏅 A Madea Homecoming. The reviews are trash, but, it’s Madea!
    • 🏅 A Futile and Stupid Gesture. An interesting look at pop culture with mixed reviews.
    • 🏅 Wine Country. Fans of Amy Poehler will love it, though it has lukewarm ratings.
    • 🏅 The World Is Yours. A funny French film (for those who don’t mind subtitles).
    • 🏅 The Monty Python films. Hilarious, if a little overhyped, but classics nonetheless.
    • 🏅 Eddy Murphy’s Raw. Not quite a film, but Netflix has a great selection of stand-up, including this R-rated legend.

Why You Need a VPN to Watch Netflix

Unlike the movies on this list, licensing is a serious matter. All streaming platforms, networks, and entertainment retailers have to abide by distribution law. That’s why your local content library isn’t available to you when you leave home.

Netflix also follows this distribution law, so it has different libraries for different countries. That’s why a movie may be available on Netflix US, but not Netflix Portugal. If you left the States for a lovely holiday in Portugal, you’d lose access to the US content library when the plane leaves US territory.

How so? Because Netflix identifies your IP address. Your IP address is a string of numbers associated with your network, and it gives away your location. Netflix’s setup only allows local IP addresses to access regional libraries.

That’s where VPNs come in. Virtual Private Networks have servers worldwide. When you connect to one of these servers, your data will go through an encrypted tunnel. In turn, that changes your IP address and gives you one from that server’s location. When you launch CyberGhost VPN, you choose a country, and we connect you to servers within it. Your device will then reflect the server’s IP. At that, the internet will think that’s where you are.

If you get a US IP address while on holiday, Netflix US won’t kick you out anymore! You’ll be able to enjoy your favorite comedies as if you were still home. The same goes for when you’re using a restricted network that blocks streaming websites, like at work or school. Our encryption scrambles your connection data so the network administrator won’t be able to see what you’re doing online and won’t block the sites you visit.

Watching Netflix with a VPN is perfectly legal. That said, unblocking content or creating a Netflix US account outside its distribution area may violate copyright and/or Netflix’s terms of service. CyberGhost VPN doesn’t recommend or endorse breaking laws and service agreements with or without a VPN.

We encrypt your data to ensure your privacy, and we operate under a strict No-Logs policy, which means we don’t record or store your information.

If you’re paying for Netflix, you should be able to see your favorites no matter where you are. In a perfect world, maybe, but in reality, distribution laws prevent this. That means you’ll lose your comedies when you travel abroad.

You don’t need to settle for that! CyberGhost VPN connects you to 116 server locations across 91 countries, so you can get back to your local Netflix library, even while you’re abroad.
