We’re Discontinuing Our Password Manager on December 12, 2022

For many years, we have been at the forefront of innovation in privacy and security. We help millions of users hide their IP addresses and encrypt their connections, as our goal is to protect digital lives all around the world and help people make the most of what the internet has to offer.

In April 2021, we launched our Password Manager in partnership with PassCamp, a cloud-based password manager. It was available as an add-on for VPN subscriptions. And while our approach to protecting your credentials was built on a solid technology foundation, the product didn’t gain the traction we expected. So we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue our Password Manager, effective December 12, 2022.

We’d like to sincerely thank our Ghosties for being a part of this project!

What This Means for You

          • As of December 12, 2022 we’re discontinuing our Password Manager, and won’t be releasing future updates.
          • You won’t be able to resubscribe to this service.
          • You’ll be able to access your Password Manager vault until January 31, 2023 so you have time to export your passwords to another secure vault.

We’re Refunding Your Remaining Add-on Subscription Time

If you purchased the Password Manager as an add-on, we’re automatically issuing you a refund.

Your VPN or dedicated IP subscriptions are not affected, so you’ll still be able to secure your data with CyberGhost VPN!

What You Can Expect

  1. For the Monthly Subscriptions

If you purchased CyberGhost Password Manager as an add-on to your monthly VPN subscription, we’re refunding you for the remaining time. Any days you have left on your subscription as of December 12, 2022, will be reflected in your account’s balance. For example, if you have 10 days left, we’re refunding 10 days’ worth of your purchase.

  1. For the Yearly Subscriptions

If CyberGhost Password Manager was an add-on to your yearly or 3-year CyberGhost VPN plan, we’re refunding all remaining months plus the current one. For example, if you have 3 months left on your subscription, we’re refunding 4 months’ worth of your purchase. This is so we can cover the current month.

Depending on your bank and time zone, it can take up to 2 weeks to receive the funds into your account.

If you no longer use the credit card or PayPal account you originally purchased the CyberGhost Password Manager add-on with, please understand that we’re not able to initiate the automatic refund. In this case, please contact our 24/7 Customer Support team through email or live chat, and they can further advise you.

If You Purchased CyberGhost Password Manager as Part of a Bundle

If you have purchased CyberGhost Password Manager subscription as part of a bundle, we will compensate you for the inconvenience by extending your remaining CyberGhost VPN subscription time with extra runtime at no additional charge.

We’re only discontinuing the password manager. You can use all the other services from the bundle with no interruptions.

Thank you for giving our Password Manager a chance!

FAQ

How much time do I have to export and back up my stored passwords?

We’ve discontinued subscriptions to the CyberGhost Password Manager add-on on December 12, 2022. However, you’ll have until January 31, 2023 to export your passwords. After that, all the information in Password Manager will be deleted permanently.
Check out our step-by-step guide on how to export passwords from your CyberGhost Password Manager.

How do I export my stored passwords from CyberGhost Password Manager?

Check out our step-by-step guide on the Privacy Hub!

What can I use as an alternative to CyberGhost Password Manager?

There are plenty of password managers out there. Some have great encryption and security but have a device limit. Others have good auto-filling options and great device compatibility but don’t work in offline mode or have no biometric login options. Only you can decide what the best choice is for you, and we’d highly advise researching your options.
Once you’ve made your choice, you can then use the .csv file to import your stored credentials. We highly recommend that you delete the .csv file once you’ve confirmed your credentials have been properly imported.

How do I get a refund for my CyberGhost Password Manager add-on?

If you purchased CyberGhost Password Manager as an add-on, you don’t need to do anything. We’ve automatically issued refunds for any remaining time on your Password Manager subscription. Please keep in mind that we’re not refunding other services, like CyberGhost VPN, so you can still enjoy enhanced digital privacy.
Depending on your bank and time zone, it can take up to 2 weeks for the refund to reflect in your balance.
If you purchased CyberGhost Password Manager as part of a bundle, we’ll compensate you for the inconvenience by extending your VPN subscription with additional runtime at no extra charge.

Will the removal of CyberGhost Password Manager affect other CyberGhost subscriptions?

No. We’ve made the decision to discontinue our Password Manager add-on but that doesn’t impact the other services we offer. You still have CyberGhost VPN as your trusty side-kick to protect your digital identity.

Is this permanent or will CyberGhost Password Manager make a return?

It’s hard to say what the future holds. That said, we don’t have any plans to offer a password manager in the foreseeable future. Instead, we’re focusing on CyberGhost VPN and our other security tools, like the all-in-one Security Suite, for the time being.

What happens to data that is left in the password manager? Will it just remain encrypted in cyberspace or deleted from the servers?

Hi Ghostie. We never store any data we don’t absolutely need to deliver a service. In line with this policy, we deleted all data pertaining to our Password Manager.

hello I did not have time to export my password, what solution can you suggest?

Hello. The promise was that users would be allowed to export their passwords until 31 January. However, access for my account was blocked on 21 January and I am not able to log in using my existing credentials, nor am I able to restore password because emails are not sent. Can you donor your promise and allow me to get to my passwords to export them?

I am just curious if the refund process has begun. Since it was announced that the product would no longer be available as of December 12, 2022.

Hi Xave. You can still access your vault and password until January 31st. After that, we’ll issue the refund. For more details, please don’t hesitate to contact our 24/7 Customer Support team.

I will miss this a lot. Are there any details on why it did not gain traction? I loved mine but there were some features lacking that would have made it more user friendly such as the ones other competitors have, and sometimes the double password was a bit troublesome. I would not mind paying for it again in the future with a much easier to use interface. Who knows, with the recent hack of LastPass some customers might be joining!

I love CyberGhost and always get the products to show support. I would love to see you guys perhaps moving onto the privacy email provider space, secure cloud vault, anti virus, etc.

Thanks for all that you do.

We unfortunately didn’t achieve a sustainable number of password manager users. We also recognize that there are other excellent providers for this feature, and to do it well we would need to take away focus from other core products, including our award-winning VPN. This is not something we wish to do at the moment. If we do relaunch this feature in the future, we’ll be sure to let our Ghosties know.

The password was of no use to me as despite paying £82 nothing was forthcoming, I have been cheated out of my money which makes me think that this set up is one big con.

Hi Valerie. We’re sorry to hear you feel that way. Please note that the Password Manager was an additional add-on available for purchase. This means that we’ve given our Ghosties the possibility to choose to add it to the VPN subscription as an optional feature, not a mandatory one.
The Password Manager add-on was covered by our Money-Back Guarantee for those who were unsatisfied with the service.

Well, concerning a highly strategic issue (password management), I find non professional to stop such a service within less than 2 months elapsed time !
What about people empeached ? (Illness, holidays, or so many other reasons)
What about missing the single email you sent ?
What about being able to restore passwords for your customers in 1 year or 2 ?

Hi Bertrand. We’re sorry to hear you feel that way. We sent an email when we first announced we’re discontinuing our Password Manager, and we’ve sent another one since. We’ll continue sending reminders until January 31st to ensure everyone is aware and has time to export passwords.
Your passwords are encrypted and secure within our Password Manager. We’re unable to restore any passwords, as we can’t access your vault or data.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our 24/7 Customer Support team. They’re available through live chat and email.
