How to Watch the 2022 Platinum Jubilee

The world is coming together to celebrate the first-ever 70-year reign of the British Monarch — and it’s not one to be missed.

The good news is the BBC is broadcasting the Platinum Jubilee concert so we can join in with the fun. The bad news? BBC and BBC iPlayer (if you’re watching online) are only available in the UK.

Not to worry — we have a solution. Simply connect to one of CyberGhost VPN’s UK servers to access the BBC and BBC iPlayer when you travel outside the UK. Catch all the royal festivities live!

Quick Guide — How to Watch the Platinum Jubilee From Anywhere in 3 Steps

  1. Sign Up to CyberGhost VPN: Binge the Platinum Jubilee 2022 on BBC iPlayer with fast speeds and no interruptions.
  2. Select a UK Server: BBC iPlayer is only available in the UK, so you’ll have to choose a server that enables access.
  3. Start watching the Platinum Jubilee.

Why You Need a VPN to Watch the BBC Platinum Party

Although everyone around the world will be celebrating Her Majesty, the UK is the only place where you can stream the Jubilee festivities. That’s because the BBC and BBC iPlayer are exclusive to the UK.

The moment you leave UK soil, it locks you out. If you’re trying to tune in while traveling abroad, all you’ll see is an annoying error message — unless you use a VPN.

With a VPN, you can connect to a UK server to get a UK IP address, which hides your real IP address. So, when you head over to BBC iPlayer, the streaming service sees your VPN’s IP and not your own.

If you’re on a Wi-Fi that prevents you from accessing BBC iPlayer and other streaming platforms, you can use CyberGhost VPN to unblock BBC iPlayer’s library to catch all of the platinum party live.

While using a VPN is perfectly legal in most countries, unblocking the BBC’s content or creating an account outside of the UK may violate copyright laws. CyberGhost VPN doesn’t recommend breaking any agreements or laws, with or without a VPN.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022: What You Need to Know

People walking down the street outside Buckingham Palace.

If you’re a royalist, you’ll already know that this year marked 70 years on the throne for Queen Elizabeth II. Although the anniversary of her Jubilee date was officially February 6, the much-anticipated celebrations are taking place this summer.

From Thursday, June 2 through Sunday, 5 June, the UK will host various celebrations to celebrate The Queen’s 70 years of service.

The BBC is live streaming all public and community events over the weekend, so the UK can watch the Platinum Jubilee party unfold.

What to Expect From the Platinum Jubilee Festivities

The long weekend promises four days of royal-filled content up and down the country, from royal displays to music concerts and the official BBC Platinum Jubilee concert.

Thursday, June 2

The Platinum Jubilee 2022 kicks off with a Trooping the Color parade, the official celebration of The Queen’s birthday.

The birthday parade begins at 11 am BST, with Irish Guards and the 1st Battalion trooping the color. Members of the Royal Family will be watching the parade alongside The Queen from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

As with other royal birthday celebrations, expect a royal horse parade with over 240 horses and military personnel, followed by a Royal Gun Salute. The festivities on Thursday, June 2 also include lighting beacons across the UK and in Commonwealth countries worldwide.

Friday, June 3

Friday, June 3 marks the day of the Service of Thanksgiving, hosted at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, starting at 11:30 am BST.

The cathedral restored its famous bell in 2021 in preparation for this year’s Jubilee celebrations, which they’ll ring on Friday, June 3 to mark the momentous occasion.

Saturday, June 4

Saturday, June 4 is when the celebrations really get going. First, The Queen and members of the Royal Family will attend the Epsom Downs Derby horse race, which begins at 5:30 pm BST.

Later in the evening, Buckingham Palace will host the BBC Platinum Jubilee concert, with many famous faces attending the event. Expect to see performances from Diana Ross, Queen, Craig David, George Ezra, and many more, as we celebrate 70 years of music in honor of The Queen’s time on the throne. The two-and-a-half-hour show begins at 8 pm BST.

Sunday, June 5

The last day of the Jubilee festivities promises a full day of British celebrations. The UK public will host Jubilee lunches country-wide, as they come together to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

Buckingham Palace will also host the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, which takes us on a trip down memory lane into the history of The Queen’s 70-year reign — it even features the famous gold carriage used for her coronation.

Musicians, film stars, sports figures, and many more British treasures will take to the stage to perform or congratulate The Queen. You can stream the pageant live from 2:30 pm BST.
