6 Reasons to Always Use a VPN: Find Out Who’s Watching

As cybercrime continues rising, it’s evermore necessary to protect yourself online. According to Pew Research, 64% of American netizens have experienced a data breach. What’s more frightening is how much it can cost. AAG cites how cybercrime cost people in the US more than $10.2 billion in 2022.

This might lead you to ask “Should I always use a VPN?” Well, using a VPN improves your cyber safety in many digital situations. Aside from protecting you against attacks over Wi-Fi networks, they also mask your IP address and make you tougher to track. Moreover, VPNs enhance your digital freedom and help you exercise your right to information.

Should you always use a VPN? Yes, pretty much. Unless it’s unsafe, illegal, or more troublesome to do so, it’s a good idea to always stay under the wing of VPN protection. Let’s explore why staying connected to a VPN is important and how they’re a growing necessity in modern digital life.

CyberGhost is a feature-rich VPN that protects your internet data with military-grade encryption. A single subscription lets you connect up to 7 devices at any time. Our strict No Logs policy offers you an ultra-private browsing experience — we can’t even see what you’re up to! Get CyberGhost VPN.

Should You Use a VPN All the Time?

If you don’t want people to see your entire browsing history and want to add extra security to online transactions, you should always use a VPN. As it stands, your ISP can see everything you search and watch, they can also share this information with third parties. Cybercriminals are also a constant threat, whether you’re aware of them or not. Want to put a stop to it? Stay connected to a VPN at all times.

Your VPN use will be guided by your lifestyle and whether you’re using the VPN for work, streaming, protecting your identity, securing your transactions, or improving your online experience. Maybe even all of the above. Whether you need your VPN turned on all the time is really up to you, but it is better for your security and privacy to stay connected to a VPN

6 Reasons Why You Should Always Use a VPN

VPNs are crucial for securing your internet traffic and they’re extremely useful for overcoming pesky limits and restrictions. If you’re on the fence about whether to make the investment, here’s an overview of benefits to consider.

1. Protect Your Safety On Public Wi-Fi

When you connect to a shared or public Wi-Fi network, you’re extremely vulnerable to attacks. It’s not difficult for threat actors to infect your device with malware when you share a network.

Skilled cybercriminals can use a shared connection as an entry point to your device. They can launch multiple types of attacks over Wi-Fi and spy on everything you do to steal your confidential data. This includes information like passwords, identity documents, and banking credentials.

Here’s a list of threats you face on shared Wi-Fi networks:

CyberGhost VPN helps protect you against these types of attacks. When you connect to our VPN, it puts a strong security layer between cybercriminals and your personal accounts. If you’re accustomed to working in coffee shops or shared office spaces, it’s a good idea to always connect to a VPN.

2. Maintain Your Internet Privacy

It’s getting tougher to avoid internet surveillance and keep your internet activity private. Between government surveillance, ISP snooping, and irksome advertisers digging for your data, privacy isn’t a given.

While it’s easy to feel hopeless about privacy, using a VPN makes a significant difference to your internet privacy status. They can stop your ISP from spying on your activity, prevent deep packet inspection, and mask your IP address to throw overstepping governments off your scent.

It’s also important to keep your internet data secure when trading cryptocurrency. Cybercriminals target crypto wallets because it lets them steal currency without putting it into accounts directly linked to their identity. You can use a VPN to protect your crypto transactions and keep your wallet safe.

Journalists reporting on dangerous issues and activists taking part in civil movements also need extra protection online. If you pose a threat of political dissent or opposition, it can be enough to put your safety in danger — especially in countries where the ruling party doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty.

Unless you take steps to ensure it, nothing is automatically private. The default reality is that anyone with the right tools can see what you do. If you don’t want all your internet activity to be on show to the world, always use a VPN. When you get a CyberGhost VPN subscription, we never store or check your activity — our No Logs policy forbids it. Get CyberGhost VPN to upgrade your internet privacy toolkit.

3. Stay One Step Ahead of Your ISP

Internet service providers might not seem like bad apples, but the truth is quite saddening. ISPs track your browsing activity and in some countries, including the US, they sell your data to third parties for marketing purposes. Shockingly, this also includes your entire browsing history! Some governments also mandate ISPs to record and store all your browsing data for several years to turn in to the authorities upon request.

It’s one thing to need protection on public Wi-Fi, but being spied on in your own home is next-level disturbing. If you want privacy, you always need to connect to a VPN — even at home.

That’s not all. Your ISP also throttles your connection if they detect high-bandwidth activities like streaming. You might notice movies buffering for no apparent reason or a randomly slow connection. It’s frustrating to get stuck with buffering halfway through a show but that’s what happens when your ISP throttles you. We’re not fans of ISP content-based throttling either, and you don’t have to put up with it.

CyberGhost VPN encrypts your traffic and runs your internet through a secure tunnel. When you connect to our VPN, your ISP can’t see what you’re up to. CyberGhost VPN also prevents deep packet inspection. Your ISP can’t interfere with what they don’t see! Stream without obstacles with the best streaming VPN. Our streaming-optimized servers let you keep watching your favorite shows in high-quality, interruption-free.

4. Stream Content on the Go

When you travel abroad, you might lose access to your streaming subscriptions. Many platforms prohibit streaming outside certain regions. Traveling domestically between regions can also impede your ability to stream what you want. In the US, some channels are only available in certain states and you might lose access when traveling domestically.

The same is true in Ireland — since the Republic of Ireland isn’t in the UK, you’ll need a VPN to keep safely using platforms like BBC iPlayer in Ireland. Connect to CyberGhost VPN when you take a trip abroad to keep access to your favorite platforms

Here’s a list of some of our dedicated streaming platform servers:

VPNs cloak your IP address and assign you one from the country of your choice to make it seem like you’re still there. Our upgraded 10Gbps VPN servers ensure you get a high-quality and uninterrupted streaming experience. Tired of missing out on episode releases when you’re at work or traveling? Get CyberGhost VPN to safely tune into streaming services from anywhere. Stay connected wherever you go.

5. Secure Your Online Banking & Shopping

Should you always use a VPN for online banking and shopping? Absolutely, you should. It’s just not worth taking the risk of having your bank details exposed.

A leak could mean losing money or criminals using your identity to commit fraud and you’d have to spend a lot of time to rectify the issue. You won’t make things easy for hackers if you stay connected to a VPN when you transact.

Secure your transaction data behind a fortress of encryption with CyberGhost VPN. A single subscription lets you connect up to 7 devices at a time. You can share your subscription with family and friends and keep your whole household protected.

6. Safeguard Your Digital Freedom

Online censorship is spreading like the plague and we need to find ways to protect digital freedom. Some countries prohibit freedom of expression and when power goes unchecked, freedom dissipates. Pure journalism is a stronghold for information freedom but many countries block information they deem “undesirable”.

If propaganda machines and information suppression continue long enough, the balance of power becomes extremely skewed and difficult to repair. This principle is exemplified by the least free country on earth — North Korea. The current regime started by heavily censoring the information citizens had access to.

Digital freedom varies vastly between countries but few places are becoming more free with time. In fact, ideas like internet censorship, surveillance, and policing are being discussed more casually in Western countries.

Recent laws and bill proposals like the US RESTRICT Act and the UK’s Online Safety Bill show Western governments are more than willing to use heavy surveillance and restriction. Get CyberGhost VPN to access blocked websites or news outlets and bypass internet censorship.

Always Use a VPN and Stay Protected

When you’re using the internet for regular daily activities, you don’t get a sense of how exposed you really are. The disturbing truth is everything you do is visible to at least one person or organization. Even when you’re just browsing the web at home, your ISP watches stores, and possibly even sells your browsing data.

The police can’t protect you on the internet, and in certain countries, the police are actively restricting your internet freedom. Aside from protecting yourself from cybercriminals, you might also need to protect yourself from criminal governments. It’s your responsibility to keep your browsing data and online identity safe.

Using a VPN helps you stay safe online and provides you with more digital flexibility and freedom. When you travel, using a VPN lets you take your subscriptions with you. It’s less a question of “When should you use a VPN?” and more a question of “Which VPN should you choose?”

CyberGhost VPN is one of the best internet privacy and digital freedom tools available. It’s packed with features and designed to give you everything you need to enjoy online life securely. Get CyberGhost VPN risk-free with a 45-day money-back guarantee.

Reply

Hi, Dorota

That depends, really. If the application you’re trying to install uses GPS to determine your location, as is often the case with smartphone apps, then a VPN alone won’t be enough.

While it is possible, we cannot recommend spoofing your GPS location, since this is usually against the terms and conditions of app stores. Again, it is possible.

If you’re using Android, you can try looking for an open-source solution on the F-Droid marketplace.

Hi, Lanza

Your initial instinct is correct, the email you received is likely a phishing attempt. cyberghost.info is not a domain we operate, CyberGhost does not issue security reports about email accounts or ask for any account information whatsoever.

If you did not click any links or download any of the files from the email in question, your inbox is likely safe. For some extra peace of mind, we recommend strenghening your email password and following our guide to online security.

Stay safe,

I cannot read some of BBC News articles from their website whilst using CyberGhost:-

This is the error message I get.
Error: 410 Gone
Your client has made a request for a BBC domain that is no longer hosted on Akamai, but the request was sent to an Akamai IP address. This suggests your client is using a very out-of-date DNS response, or one that has been altered. If you’re using VPN software or similar, try disabling it and / or contact your VPN provider’s technical support.

I’m trying to take an old device off my subscription and put the VPN on my new phone instead and it’s impossible to find out how to do that on your website. I’m certainly not going to renew my subscription

Hi Michael. So sorry for the confusion, I’m sure it was frustrating! Our support center actually has a great guide for what to do when you reach the maximum number of devices. If you go to your account in the app and select VPN, you can delete a device. That will clear up a slot so you can use CyberGhost on your new phone! Ciao Cyberghost,
Foto
Mail
Messaggi su Whatsap.
Come è potuto accadere?

I have sent several email in an attempt to let you know I have paid twice for a subscription without receiving any answer. I have repeatedly asked for a phone number so I can clear this up without any response. Now I received two charges for using the VPN in London, 4/12 for $78.00 and 4/16 for $31.00. This was charged on my credit card and I would like to speak to management about this and the other issue. Please contact me to discuss.
Sincerely,
Gus Samios

Hello Jose, if you connect to our server for Argentina, you should be able to watch Flow and access any Argentinian site. If you still have problems, you can contact our customer service for further information. Thanks for your comment!
