Linux-loving Ghosties, we have some excellent news for your: our updated CyberGhost VPN for Linux app is here!
And it now comes with WireGuard® capabilities. 😉
This is a fairly new VPN protocol, still labeled as a work in progress. It aims to marry the security of the OpenVPN protocol with the speed of (the now easier to block) IPsec.
When it comes to encryption, WireGuard® is all about the strictest security standards. It also comes with some extra benefits like faster speeds, more user-friendliness, and less power usage.
The beginning of a beautiful friendship
Here at CyberGhost VPN, we’ve been paying close attention to the development of WireGuard®. And we must confess, we’ve been impressed with the protocol’s performance.
So, we’ve decided to integrate it and get involved.
Our team will be performing code reviews and adding to the functionalities in the near future.
All because we want to give you the best possible VPN protection, no matter your device or OS of choice.
What else is new in the app
You can now find five additional distros and distro versions in our CyberGhost VPN for Linux app:
- Fedora 31
- Mint 19
- CentOS 7
Using something else?
Leave a comment below and let us know. We’ll plan our development accordingly. 😉
Update your app
To get the latest version of our Linux app, head to My account.
From there, configure a new device and select the app version that corresponds to your Linux distribution.
Then run the ‘install.sh’ installer and that’s it. 🙂
Until next time, stay safe and secure!

The linux application is a bash command… Is it so difficult to make it works on the latest Ubuntu 22.04??? in one year, LTS 24.04 ???
I pay Cyberghost since 7 years. I can’t use it on my main Ubuntu laptop!!! Don’t know why ?

We’re sorry to hear you’re not satisfied with our service, Seb. Rest assured we’re working on improving CyberGhost VPN compatibility across multiple platforms.

Another one in the waiting list… CyberGhost in Ubuntu 22.04 ?
Any workaround or possible beta available ahead of the official app?
Posted on 09/02/2023 at 10:25
Hi A. Thank you for your feedback. At the moment, we can not guarantee a custom configuration that will reliably protect your Ubuntu device. However, you can try setting up CyberGhost VPN on your router which will protect all devices in your household.

I’m using Linux Mint 20.3. Like many of you, I wasn’t able to get the binary installer to work. However, I followed Adina Ailoaiei’s advice and followed the instructions on this page: https://support.cyberghostvpn.com/hc/en-us/articles/213651505-How-to-Set-Up-OpenVPN-on-Linux-Mint-via-Network-Manager
The directions worked perfectly for me. I’m connected (and I can’t believe it!).

Glad to hear you found a workaround for you, Todd.

It’s 2023 and still no update for Ubuntu 2204. What’s up? I guess I will have to buy another VPN. Bye.

We’re sorry to hear you feel that way, Michael. We’re working to extend CyberGhost VPN support for Linux distributions. Thank you for your patience.

When will CENTOS be upgraded? It is still on 7…. 9 came out in 2021.
If CG cant provide services for what they say, why can we not request a refund, and get our money back?
Posted on 09/01/2023 at 10:25
Thank you for your feedback, Dusty. We’re working on making CyberGhost VPN accessible to more Linux distributions.
If you are not satisfied with our service, you can request a refund as per our Money-Back Guarantee Policy.

I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04 lately and I was suprised and very disappointed that CyberGhost was not compatible. I paid my subscription but can’t use it. Any update on a release date ? It’s very frustrating.
Posted on 04/01/2023 at 15:59
We’re sorry to hear that, Julien. Unfortunately, at this time, we can’t provide an exact time frame as to when CyberGhost VPN will be available for Ubuntu 22.04.

I use CyberGhost on Windows 11, but I also use Zorin OS Pro 6.2 (which is based on Ubuntu) and would like to have an official app.

I too have been using Cyberghost since 2019 but LMDE 5 and Debian buster no longer work, I will be forced to switch to another VPN service despite having paid until 2025.
Every time I read that the “team” is working on it, or terms like in the future, wonderful promises but that doesn’t buy us anything….
I hope I can stay with you guys but fear not.

Thank you for your suggestion, Ghostie!

Guyz, it’s october.
We NEED to have cyberghost VPN compatible for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS as it’s a sofware I paid for.
Since Ubuntu is most probably the most used OS in the world, as a customer I’m asking how many more months you need to release it.
Are you planning on doing that?
Posted on 18/10/2022 at 11:12
Hi Ghostie. We plan to update our Linux CLI app to include more distribution in the future but we currently don’t have an exact time frame as to when it will be available. Thank you for your understanding.

I have a PC with Windows OS and a laptop with Linux.
Can I install Cyberghost VPN on both machine with only one subscription?
Posted on 18/10/2022 at 11:13
Hi Rick. You can use a single CyberGhost VPN subscription on up to 7 devices at the same time.
Posted on 12/10/2022 at 07:43
I’ve been using your services since 2018 between android and windows. I just switched over to Fedora Linux and would like to request a software update regarding fedora 36/37. CyberGhost has been very good to me over the years and I would hate to jump ship.
Posted on 12/10/2022 at 10:04
Hi Ghostie. We’re happy to hear you’ve enjoyed CyberGhost VPN. Our team is currently working to extend support for more Linux distros. Stay tuned for future updates!

Still no news about ubuntu 22.04 version? This is very frustrating. The least you could you do is to provide subscribes with some kind of timeframe. How long should we wait? I think this is a fair question.

Hi Sema. Sorry to hear you’re not satisfied with our service. Unfortunately, at the moment we don’t have an available time frame. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Jean-Baptiste. Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact time frame at the moment. Thank you for your understanding.

Wouldn’t it make more sense if they kept the Linux version up to date? Most of the distributions are built with security in mind, compared to Windows.

Also when will there be a GUI version?

Going to have to move to another VPN
I have had Cyberghostvpn for 2 years now,
i primarily use Linux and the linux cyberghostvpn app lags so behind distro releases that by the time
the app is updated, 2 or 3 distro versions have already come out.
I along with many of the other linux users dont want to either be forced to use a distro 3 iterations old
or forced to just not have access to cybervpn while using our current distro
its quite ridiculous really.

Sorry to hear you’re not satisfied with out service. Rest assured, we’ve forwarded your feedback to our dev team, and they’re currently looking into a better distro support.

I don’t understand cyberghost’s roadmap, they don’t anticipate the release of ubuntu versions. Since April, it seems to me that you could have supported version 22.04!

Hi Jarno. Rest assured that our dev team is working on many projects to improve our service, and bring you the best anonymity and security tools for all operating systems. We’ll update our posts to reflect our newest releases. Stay tuned for updates!

When will the CLI app support Linux Mint 21? Torrenting is terribly slow/frustrating through OpenVPN.

any chance of getting a GUI for CyberGhost on Ubuntu? CLI is fine for me, but my SO just balks at it, so we have to keep on using WinDoze …. 🙁

Hi Juha, thanks for your feedback. We’re still looking into configuring CyberGhost VPN on different router firmware. Stay tuned for future updates!

Posted on 26/02/2021 at 14:39
Hi, Joe! Our dev team is still working on a CLI app for Debian.
However, we’ve heard from other Ghosties that they’ve been successfully using other config files on Debian, so maybe that’s also something you can try.

In Manjaro it works with the CentOs Version. I use it now and it work fine. But for sure, there should be something like a Flatpak or Snap Version, but dont know if its possible, also a Graphical Interface would be great…

We appreciate your feedback, Matthias. 🙂
Posted on 16/11/2020 at 21:00
I would like to know how you implemented Wireguard protocol ?
Because I’ve learned that it give a static IP adress, so it keep our real IP adress somewhere. In other words, the no-log policy could not work anymore.
Thank you for your reply.
John Do not so John Do.
Posted on 18/11/2020 at 12:57
Hi, John! 👋
We use a customized version of WireGuard®, with our own daemon on top of the protocol generating random IPs.
In bringing WireGuard® in line with other protocols, we were inspired by the behavior of OpenVPN and IPsec on Linux.

Does the WireGaurd have an Option forSmartphones of the Apple iPhones? In the near future… I am hearing Great things about this new improved VPN,..!
Also what about Nokia Android smartphones or smartphones that are less popular., but are of the same usefulness with less functionalities than the Other “Smartphones” I am most Interested in the quality and real ness also what are the qualities that make CYBER GHOST Better than the others we’ve ALL learned of.

your current linux app does not support Ubuntu 20.04
Will your wireguard app support Ubuntu 20.04 , and will it work on OpenWrt routers?
When shall we expect to try it out?!

Will we be able to use the native wireguartd clientor only your provided one?
Posted on 10/02/2020 at 11:09
will we also be able to connect via the native wireguard client,
or only your provided one?
Posted on 13/02/2020 at 21:01
I am also interested in this. It would be very useful for setting Wireguard up in router as well, where the gain in performance will be the most significant
Posted on 03/03/2020 at 13:34
Yes, it’s possible. The procedure for connecting to a selected server is rather simple. I’ve been able to recover the inner operations of this CLI tool while troubleshooting it.
Posted on 13/04/2020 at 13:11
that sounds great.
Would you care to share your findings?
