Why Would I Need a France IP?
A French IP address lets you surf the web as if you’re still in France. This makes it easier to access French websites while you travel. Let’s take a closer look at the benefits of having an IP address for France.
- Access French websites from abroad. Many French websites and online services limit access based on your location. This can be due to content licensing agreements or local market focus. When you have a French IP address, you can keep access to French websites while you travel outside of France.
- Boost online security and privacy. A French IP address masks your real IP address. When people can see your IP address, they can see your location and ISP. Masking your IP address protects you against tracking, hacking, and third-party surveillance. Overall, keeping your real IP location hidden enhances your online privacy.

- Securely access online banking. Some French banks and financial institutions flag logins from foreign IP addresses. This can lead to account blocks or fraud alerts – unnecessary hassle. A French IP address lets you keep using financial services in France while you travel without disturbances.
- Avoid price discrimination. Many online vendors adjust prices based on location, with lower rates often available to locals. This is called “price discrimination” or “dynamic pricing.” Using an IP for France can let you access local discounts and special rates for flights, hotels, or retail products.
- Bypass censorship. Some countries impose strict internet policies to limit your access to news and social media. Depending on where you are, you may not have access to social media or international news. Since France has very few censorship and internet restrictions, switching to a French IP address lets you access global content freely.
- Streamline remote work access. Certain companies restrict access to resources based on location. If you work remotely for a French company, having a France IP address lets you connect to networks, servers, and portals as if you were in the country. Just ensure you’re not breaking your contract by spoofing your IP location.
- Securely access online banking. Some French banks and financial institutions flag logins from foreign IP addresses. This can lead to account blocks or fraud alerts – unnecessary hassle. A French IP address lets you keep using financial services in France while you travel without disturbances.
How to Get a French IP Address: 3 Methods
Now you know the benefits of having a France IP address, let’s take a look at 3 different ways you can get one and the pros and cons of each method.
1. Use a VPN
A VPN (virtual private network) is the most convenient, secure, and reliable way to get a French IP address. When you get a subscription to a premium VPN service, you’ll get access to VPN servers worldwide – including servers in France.
Connecting to a French VPN server reroutes your internet traffic through that server. This will mask your IP address and replace it with a French one to make it appear as though you’re browsing from France.
One of the major advantages of using a VPN is its strong encryption. This protects your data against tracking, hacking, and data leaks. Reputable VPN services provide DNS leak protection so your ISP can’t see what you do online – they usually can.
Most premium VPN services also offer unlimited bandwidth, so you can browse without slowdowns or data restrictions. It might be tempting to try a free VPN to get a French IP address for free. However, most free VPNs have data caps, and if you go over them, it can cost you more in the end.
Some free VPNs even sell your private data for profit – they have to make money somehow, right? But if privacy is important to you, choose a VPN provider with a strict no-logs policy.
CyberGhost VPN has servers in 3 cities across France. Whether you want an IP address from Paris, Marseille, Strasbourg, or anywhere else in the world, CyberGhost VPN has you covered. We stick to a strict no-logs policy which means we can’t see or log information about your online activity. Our no-logs policy was audited by Deloitte – we’ll never log or share your online data.
2. Use a Proxy
A proxy server works as an intermediary between your device and the websites you want to access. When you connect to a French proxy, it forwards your internet traffic and masks your IP with a French address. Like with a VPN, this makes it seem as though you’re browsing from France, which lets you access French websites.
However, unlike VPNs, proxies don’t encrypt your data. While they conceal your real IP location, your ISP and other third parties can still see your online activity.
Free proxies can pose privacy risks, as some may track and sell your data. Proxies certainly aren’t the safest option, but if you’re okay with your IP address and activity being exposed, it’s a cheaper choice.
3. Use Tor Browser
People usually use Tor to access the dark web. It provides heavy encryption and changes your IP address for privacy and security. Tor is a browser that makes your internet activity anonymous. It reroutes your traffic through several volunteer-run nodes or “relays” worldwide, and each adds a layer of encryption.
The Tor network offers another way to get a French IP address. However, it randomly assigns you new IP locations which means if you want to configure it to get a French IP address, you’ll need some basic knowledge about Tor’s architecture.
While Tor provides great privacy, the heavy encryption results in a slow internet connection. It’s a good tool for privacy-sensitive tasks – especially when combined with a VPN – but it’s not an ideal option for everyday browsing.

As far I understand this is an “IP-out” address for me to go out from anywhere on the network. Is there a way to get it “IP-in”, i.e. that people could reach my home hosted sites and data?
I have a cyberghost dedicated IP.

Hi JFC! I’m not exactly sure if you want to use an IP to host a domain or have people access your device. Keep in mind that remote connections require port forwarding which is disabled on our servers for security reasons. However, I’d advise getting in touch with our 24/7 customer support team through email or live chat so that they can have a look at your configuration.
